Mowaffaq is an international insurance and reinsurance specialist and a qualified lawyer, who has under his belt over 50 years of experience within the legal sector, with particular focus on insurance, reinsurance, shipping, maritime law, and transportation. He has a bachelor’s degree in law from Baghdad University and a master’s degree in company law from Leeds University.

His experiences stem from, his unique position as Chairman & General Manager of the National Insurance Co. of Iraq for 12 years, his involvement with the Ministries of Justice, Finance, and Commerce, as a member of various drafting committees of different laws, including Company Law, Maritime Law and Transportation Law, to state a few, his position as General Manager and board member of a number of GCC private insurance companies spanning over 25 years, and his continuous involvement as a board member of some insurance companies within the GCC (including Kuwait Reinsurance Co., and Gulf Union Insurance & Reinsurance Co (Bahrain)).

Lately, Mowaffaq’s focus has been on working in highly complex arbitral disputes pertaining to insurance and reinsurance providing advice on policies for major oil and gas facilities, and shipping, with particular reference to GCC, English and International Law.
